Plastic is essential to modern life, providing important benefits...
It keeps us clean
It keeps us healthy
It keeps our food fresh
It keeps us warm and dry
...which has generated an exponential growth in plastic production...
...that has had a hugely damaging effect on the planet
Reliance on fossil fuels
High carbon footprint
Micro-plastics
We are working to reduce the carbon footprint of plastic manufacturing…
The global carbon footprint of plastics doubled between 1995 and 2015, reaching 2.2 million tons of CO2.
As a society, we need to find a way to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of essential plastic manufacturing. At Planet, we are working hard to achieve just such a goal.
…while also combatting plastic litter...
Instead of collecting and recycling plastic, 86% of all plastic produced each year is thrown away. Of that 86%, the vast majority either ends up in landfill or as litter in our cities, countryside, and oceans. At Planet we are working on ways to combat plastic litter and microplastics.
…and helping to save our soils
Climate change is accelerating global soil degradation and carbon loss, threatening food security, biodiversity, and climate stability. Soil degradation reduces agricultural productivity, disrupts water cycles, and increases vulnerability to climate shocks. Global losses from land degradation and desertification are estimated at US$6.3 to US$10.6 trillion annually.
